Q: What is The 7 Virtues Perfume Atelier?
A: The 7 Virtues Perfume Atelier is an experiential workshop like no other in North America where you can design your own bespoke perfume from famous perfumes like Vanilla Woods and Cherry Ambition, name it, and create custom packaging. Inspired by the perfume ateliers in Grasse, France, our atelier is located at Queen’s Marque, Halifax. This is our flagship store in our seaside hometown overlooking the famous steps that come out of the iconic Halifax Waterfront.
Designing Your Perfume
Q: How do I start designing my own perfume?
A: To begin designing your own perfume, you will work with our expert alchemists. They will welcome you and invite you to travel along the perfume wall that explains the notes and stories of each of our popular perfumes (available exclusively at Sephora in 19 countries.) Once you spray each one on named blotters, you take the ones you love, wave them past your nose, and that’s your perfume! You will then receive a tray with your bottle and pipettes and will begin to create your perfume with the perfumes of your choice in the apothecary jars.
Q: What scents are available for blending?
A: You will discover a variety of sustainably sourced perfumes infused with organic sugar cane alcohol. All of our perfumes are clean, hypoallergenic, vegan and cruelty free. They are made without phthalates for parabens or sulfates.
Our famous perfumes including Vanilla Woods and Coconut Sun are on hand including new ones that have yet to be released.
Q: Can I design the packaging for my perfume?
A: Yes! After creating your unique scent, you can design your own packaging. You'll choose a name for your perfume, and one of our Alchemists will print it on a custom label (with a different design featured each day). Then, you'll decorate your box with stickers that reflect the notes in your fragrance masterpiece.
Q: Can I Come Watch a Friend? Here's What to Know.
A: We love that you’re excited to support your friend’s scent journey! Our atelier is a cozy sanctuary of less than 700 square feet with limited seating, and during our busiest season (May to September), every seat is reserved for guests who are creating their own custom perfume.
From October through April, if you’d like to accompany a friend, feel free to call us the day of the booking to see if we have extra space. While we can’t guarantee availability, we’ll always do our best to accommodate when we can.
We gently encourage all guests to take part in the full experience—it’s a memory you’ll cherish, and there's nothing quite like leaving with a signature scent you designed yourself.
Q: How long can I spend in the Atelier?
A: Appointments are 45 minutes long—plenty of time to craft your signature scent!
We kindly ask that you arrive on time, as our Atelier seats up to 18 guests at a time and we often have back-to-back bookings. If you’re running late, please call the Atelier to let our Alchemists know. During busy times, arriving late may mean less time to unwind and create your perfume.
Private Events are allotted 1 hour and 30 minutes. We begin no later than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time. We recommend guests arrive no more than 10–15 minutes early, as we may still be adding the finishing touches for your special celebration.
Q: Can I bring food to the Atelier?
A: We offer complimentary refreshments during select times:
- Sundays: All-day Afternoon Tea with bottomless tea
- Wednesdays (4pm–7pm): Complimentary mocktails
- Private Events: Complimentary mocktails and mimosas for your group to enjoy
If you’re attending a Private Event and would like to bring additional food, please request approval in advance so we can confirm available space.
To preserve the perfume-making experience, we kindly ask that no hot food, savory dishes, or anything with strong scents be brought into the Atelier.
Looking to enjoy a full meal before or after your session? We recommend our wonderful neighbours at Bar Sofia, or one of the many fantastic restaurants throughout Queen’s Marque.
Booking an Appointment
Q: How do I book an appointment at The 7 Virtues Perfume Atelier?
A: You can book an appointment through our website. Visit our booking page, select a date and time that suits you, and fill in the required details. You will receive a confirmation email once your booking is complete.
Q: What are the opening hours?
A: Our atelier is open from 12 noon to 8 pm every day during the summer and high season. We recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time slot.
Q: Can I add more people to my appointment?
A: If space allows, we’re happy to welcome additional guests—however, we can’t always guarantee availability, especially during busy times when the Atelier may be fully booked.
To inquire about adding more people to your session, give the Atelier a call and our Alchemists will gladly check availability or help reschedule your appointment to a time that can accommodate everyone.
Q: Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
A: Yes, you can cancel or reschedule your appointment up to 48 hours in advance. Please click the link in your confirmation email to cancel or reschedule.

Q: Can I book a private event at The 7 Virtues Perfume Atelier?
A: Yes, we offer private events for groups of up to 20 guests. Private events are perfect for wedding parties, team building, business bonding, reunions, family groups, or just a group of friends wanting the perfume atelier and the alchemists to provide their undivided attention. Private events can be booked any day of the week when available between 10:30am and Noon or 8pm and 9:30pm.
Q: What is included in a private event booking?
A: Private event bookings include:

A: Absolutely! Queen’s Marque offers a variety of dining options to complement your perfume-making experience. You can enjoy a lovely dinner or brunch at one of the exquisite restaurants in the area. Here are some options:

General Questions
Q: What is the cost of designing my own perfume?
A: The cost for the full experience, including creating your bespoke fragrance and custom packaging, is $127 CAD, the same price as a 50ml perfume. This includes a 50ml bottle of your unique perfume.
Q: Will my Credit Card be charged when I book?
- If you book for groups of 4+, you will be charged $10 per person at the time of booking to secure your spot, as seating is limited. This charge will be applied to your Make Your Own Perfume session, and when you complete your payment in-store, the $10 is discounted from the final cost. You must cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your booked session, to receive a full refund.
- If you are booking for groups of 3 and under, there is no charge to your card; however, we do require at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule.
- Private event bookings will be charged an $120 deposit to hold the location. We require at least 7 days notice for alterations to this booking.
What is the cancellation policy?
- For groups under 3, we ask that you please provide us with 48 hours notice to free up space, as our seating is limited.
- For groups of 4+, a deposit of $10 is made at the time of booking. This session can be cancelled with a full refund, or rescheduled provided we are given at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations made within 48 hours will not receive a refund.
- For private events, alterations to your booking must be made at least 7 days before the event to receive a full refund. Cancellations made within the 7 days will not receive a refund.
Q: Are there any age restrictions?
A: Children welcome to create! We love sharing the art of perfume-making with young creators. However, to ensure a focused and enjoyable experience for everyone, we kindly ask that only children who are participating in the atelier workshop join us.
Q: Can I purchase gift vouchers?
A: Yes, gift vouchers are available and make a perfect present for any occasion. You can purchase them through our website or in-store.
